To meet the future market, technical and sustainability challenges in the PET packaging sector, we need the courage to be creative and innovative. Dialogue between experts is also proven and important. However, I consider openness to new approaches, dialogue with start-ups and questioning the 'tried and tested' to be the key to the future.
Rethinking the 'tried and true' - the answer to the 'why' question - has been a constant challenge for me as a father of three daughters, now young women, especially in recent years. The questions of the younger generation - not just the Hofstetters, of course - are the motivation to solve one of the most pressing challenges of our time: Sustainability and economic success in an ever more complex world.​​​

Our beautiful campus, where the conference is taking place, is not only ideal for recreation but also serves as an open-air laboratory. Here, our experts conduct a wide range of research—from studying how plants respond to climate change to designing modern living spaces. To my knowledge, we are also the only Swiss University of Applied Sciences with a scheduled ferry stop right on campus.
Rapperswil-Jona, our host city, is a vibrant and dynamic place with a thriving start-up community and a strong industrial presence. Its proximity to the Zurich metropolitan area, Switzerland’s economic powerhouse, is yet another advantage.
If you have time outside the conference, I encourage you to explore the shores of Lake Zurich, visit the historic old town with its impressive castle, or simply enjoy a coffee, tea, or a meal at one of the many cafés and restaurants.
